10 Portrait Photography Tips from Google

Although it only has one rear camera, Google Pixel 2 duo and Pixel 2 XL have a portrait mode that can be relied upon. To maximize the mode, Google gave 10 tips for taking portrait photos.

Although these tips are actually intended for users of Pixel 2, actually these tips can also be applied in other phones.

1. Closer

This is the most important trick in a good portrait photo. That is the closer the distance between the camera with the subject, then blur or bokeh on the background of the image will increasingly appear.

2. Increase the distance between subject and background

In addition to closer the camera with the subject, keep the subject with the background will also bring bokeh.

3. Tap on face

Do not forget to tap the subject on the phone screen to adjust focus and exposure. This is mandatory, especially if the lighting in the background of the image is much stronger than the subject. The slider on the bottom of the screen can also be used to adjust exposure.

4. Place the subject on the front

The resulting bokeh will be better if the subject is placed on the front of the foreground alias. It is also increasingly highlight the subject in the photo.

5. Change perspective

Unique photo angle can also make the photo more interesting. For example low angle to imitate the point of view of children or animals, or can also shoot from above to accentuate the shape or component graphics of an object.

6. Rule of third

This is the most basic photography tips, ie put the subject in frame with rule of third rule. The easy way is to make each of the two imaginary lines vertically and horizontally for the guide, and the subject must be placed at the point where the line intersects.

Or the easy way, turn on the 3x3 grid option rhyme on the camera phone to bring up the imaginary line. Easy tricks like this will produce photo compositions that are (usually) nicer than the composition of the 'dead center' alias put the subject in the middle of the photo.

7. Make it simpler

A photo can fail to tell a story if too many objects distract from the subject. This can be overcome by simplifying the details in the photo.

Also remember to check the frames of photo frames before pressing the shutter button. This is to ensure that no unwanted objects enter the frame.

8. Take advantage of the line

Try looking for lines like bricks, tiles, stairs, or lines that are in the building and insert them into photos to create perspective. This line serves to direct the attention of the photo to the subject and gives a deep impression on the photo.

9. Lighting is everything

You are not always able to set the lighting when going to take pictures, but alternatively you can certainly find a place with better lighting conditions. For example shooting outdoors, or change the direction of the camera in accordance with the light.

Daytime with a very hot sun is also not a good condition to take pictures because the light is too 'hard'. Usually this condition will bring a black shadow under the eyes. For that you can use the cloud to produce a more subtle light.

Taking photos at night can be overcome by utilizing the flash of a friend's mobile phone turned on in flashlight mode to illuminate the subject.

10. Stay away from the crowd

Portrait mode works better when all subjects are at the same distance as the camera. This can be accomplished more easily when photographing a small number of people.
